Hi, Italian here, thanks for the great vid, all you said is correct! And I'd like to share a couple of things for others to know before visiting our beautiful Venice: - indeed, steering clear of the most famous attractions of the city (Ponte Vecchio, Piazza San Marco,...) during rush hour is the best course of action, usually the best times to see them are at dusk or very early in the morning in order to avoid big crowds; however if one's not discouraged by those then any moment is plenty fine. Promenades are a great way to enjoy Venice, especially if you explore all the intricacy of its streets or just enjoy the view on Canal Grande, some times you may even get yourself the sight of historical ships there! - and yes, for those very places the high prices are somewhat of a meme to us Italians - no one sane of mind would go have, say, a coffee or a pizza in Piazza San Marco if not "for the experience", but always remember that in the city hidden somewhere in some little street (a "calla" as they're called) there's probably another that sells the same product at a far more reasonable price. And if you're not too keen on Italian cuisine rest assured there's plenty of boutiques, shops and fast food places to satiate even more international tastes. - not many people know or remember that Venice is built ON water inside a LAGOON, not on shore, hence why overcrowding IS a problem for the institutions to deal with; recently there's been the implementation of an "access tax" for the Old City, essentially a ticket for visiting to keep a better control of the tourist flux. For those booking a hotel in Venice it should be comprehended in the price of booking, while for those who want to do a "touch and go" trip they'd have to pay it separately. In all cases DO INFORM YOURSELF before coming to Venice on this. - yes, Venice's road are almost entirely (if not fore some very few exceptions) made of stones and there are bridges - sometimes with steps, other times very steep, to connect the canals from side to side - reason why people with accessibility problems might have a tougher time moving around, so do get informed and plan your visit thoroughly (regarding the tax of above, if I remember correctly if you have a certified disability and/or a caregiver coming with you, you may be exempt from said tax; to be sure CHECK IT OUT). But on the other side of the medal remember here in the old part of the city there are little to no vehicles, so walking around is much safer.

It is a deeply sad and disappointing thing (and probably disturbing to some people) to realize that Mykonos, once the island selected by authors, painters, sculptors, poets and people aiming to experience the natural beauty of this little piece of arid land in the middle of the Aegean sea that was allegedly a stronghold for pirates for centuries, has now become a place where prostitution, drugs, alcoholism, rudeness and complete disrespect of almost any lawful behavior rules. Hotels, restaurants, beach bars and cafeterias charge exorbitant prices (usually without issuing any receipt), they employ young Greeks or illegal immigrants at monthly wages below (sometimes way below) the minimum wage without any social security compensations and having them work 12-14 hour shifts in 7-day weeks treating them like slaves, while beach bars and hotels occupy beaches charging ridiculously high prices for an umbrella and two “chaise longues”, forbidding people who are not willing to use them (and pay for them) to swim in that beach (Btw. by Greek law all beaches are public and freely accessible to everybody). Much of the tourist economy of the island has fallen in the hands of the Russian mafia and its oligarchs, much of the supply of food, equipment and fuel and quite a part of the building business is ruled by the Albanian mafia. Corruption runs high at all levels, as you can open any sort of shop almost anywhere, provided you have "the right connections" (or if you are willing to pay hefty “shortcut fees”) and you can build almost whatever you wish (or can afford to) without feeling restricted by any building permits, laws on the use of land, or any public space demarcation. Local Mykonians, once happy and proud of their island, are worried if they are going to have the means to keep their properties on the island, and are increasingly threatened both by the shady people that make Mykonos their summer residence and by the myriads of people landing on their island as tourists seeing in Mykonos the paradise for heavy drugs, easy free and paid sex, wild partying and a chance to engage in any sort of extreme, unhinged nightlife "entertainment" of all sorts. Multiple reports by public authority auditors characterize the situation in Mykonos as “way out of hand” and international news networks are recently known to grant Mykonos the title of "Colombia of the Mediterranean Sea", if that adds a layer of description to the fast, sad and probably irreversible disintegration of this very beautiful island. What a shameful waste!

9:23 So, obviously, you have to pay money to enter the cathedral; same thing in Salisbury and Wells, which I visited two weeks ago and they charge you 14 pouns, around 18 Euro! Four weeks ago, I have toured France, the great cathedrals in Straßbourg, Chartres, Tours, Bourges, Auxerres, Reims and of course they are open to the public, you just enter and marvel or pray. If daylight-robbing were not enough, in both places (Wells/Salisbury), there were dogs inside, believe or not and when I showed my astonishment about that, one of the guardians condescendingly remarked, that they are God`s creatures as well. So, next time I will take some sheep and snakes inside... The anglospeaking world is really most reliably always the spearhead of decadence.

Thanks Yvonne & Mike ☺ That was epic! I simply ignored any content from Venice because I was under the impression that it was overcrowded, saturated & very expensive, but you've changed my mind by showcasing its beauty, with it being almost as lovely as the both of you! 😉 I thoroughly enjoyed that, more so with your narration Mike as it added the extra dimension which other walking tour channels lack, so more please! By the way inspired by you, Lottie has started her own walking tour channel & I've lent her my DJI Action 4 to do so, & you might see me in them in the far background as I partake in my cardio walks! www.youtube.com/@Walkwithlottie Have a truly beautiful week my friends now that summer has finally befallen us! 🤗🌞

Concerning what you said in 5:00, a small yet important note: Most Greeks of the town were killed by Turks, by 1918, during the genocide of Anatolian Christian populations. What happened in 1923 was the official and final evacuation of the village by the remaining Christians living there. But the Greek population was already mostly depopulated by then.

I lived in stamford from september 2013 to may 2014. I worked as an Italian language assistant at former queen eleanor school. I was 26 and it was my first time living alone and abroad. I arrived at night by a national express coach from London (!) with my suitcases fallen apart (they were cheap :-) and I stayed for a week at a nice b&b on caserton road. The hosts were lovely, they were an elderly couple who loved italy, then I moved to zebra cottages where I lived with a middle-aged woman called Barbara. It was an unforgettable experience, and everyone was so kind and welcoming to me. I also made a good friend who still I am in contact with. I visited the place again in 2019 before the pandemic and it was as beautiful as before, the park, the river, the buildings and of course the stunning burghley house. Me, An Italian guy from southern Italy, felt ath home. Stamford and England in general will forever hold a special place in my heart, despite Brexit 🙂

Thanks Yvonne & Mike 😊 For a moment there I thought it was Madeira with the sight of those Bird of Paradise flowers! I don't know if you were aware but it appears that some of the scenes around the park were laterally inverted. By the way the vlog featuring our mutual amigo Joe is out at 8pm this evening! 😁 Have a great week my friends 🤗

Hi there Mr R! Ha ha, it does look that way doesn’t it, but we’ve just turned and gone back the other way! Didn’t get a chance to see your latest last night as we’re on our last few days in Funchal. But we’ll def’ be watching that when we get back after Tuesday. Hope you’re doing ok and your health is still on the up? Hope we might see you in Madeira this year if our paths do cross? All the best to you in the meantime mate.

Unfortunately diversity, uncontrolled immigration and the deliberate social engineering will destroy this England within the next few decades. Enjoy it before drugs and stabbings are the norm because your children won't.

If you’re visiting Gran Canaria, then Arucas, a charming town easily accessible by bus from Las Palmas, is a must. Wander its historic streets and soak up the atmosphere as if you were really there…

I suspect my neighbours are from Cork as they sound like Roy Keane. If we actually get a summer this year, I might head there for a weekend. Any good record shops? Doesn't surprise me about the pubs. My neighbours love a drink.

Needs a mosque, the call to prayer five times a day, women in hijab and niqab, men with beards and flowing robes, and of course the kebab shop.

We are staying in Camara de Lobos this summer so this is great info thanks. I think we can take the little tourist train from the town up to Cabo Girao and then start this amazing walk. if I am correct, this Levada ends up at the Maritimo foorball ground in Funchal.

Glad it was helpful Michael, ideally you can take the little train up and walk down right into 'Estreito' De Camara De Lobos and from there take a bus back to Camara De Lobos, I think that'd be about the right length of time for a good afternoons walk. I don't think you can easily get all the way to the football ground on the same walk.

I’m from Madeira, I agree with pretty much everything she said except two things, we generally eat normal food, rice, canned tuna, normal food from the supermarket I personally don’t eat madeira typical food every week nor every month. The other thing is even if I’m proudly from Madeira, and I love it here, I probably would answer that I feel more Portuguese than Madeiran. Portugal is my nation and gives me a bigger sense of identity, and ofc Portugal, Portuguese being my language and the Portuguese culture and music also shaped Madeira. So being Madeiran is being a privileged Portuguese, those things such as Portuguese music, food, history and legacy are our identity and we also have simultaneously our own Madeira identity. That’s why I feel more Portuguese than Madeiran.

How very nice to hear from someone from from Madeira, interesting to hear that you agree with most things Jessie said except for your thoughts about food and that you yourself feel more Portuguese than Madeiran. We've been very much wanting to give Madeiran's a voice on the channel for a long time. I hope we can meet up with more along the way and hear more from a Madeiran's perspective. Thanks for dropping by.
